Baby Anderson: 11 Weeks

How Far Along? 11 weeks.

Size of Baby? A fig (about 1.5 inches).
Gender? We won't find out for a few more weeks, but my mother is convinced it's a little girl. I haven't been having any 'motherly instincts' as of yet.

Name? Carl and I have had both our girl and boy names picked out for years. My Dad actually helped with the girl name way back when I was a senior in high school and we were discussing what our favorite girls names were. Carl and I had only been dating about 4 years at that point (most of which was still long distance) but even then we agreed on it. Dad likes to take all the credit.

When Carl and I found out we were pregnant, the baby was the size of a poppy seed. Since then we've referred to our little bundle of joy as poppy seed. It's become their temporary name, and if it's a little girl I think it may end up being a sweet little nickname we keep.

Weight Gain? Since finding out I was pregnant at 5 weeks, I've gained 2.5 lbs.

Stretch Marks? None. And no thank you.

Belly button in or out? In.

Wedding rings on or off? Happily on.

Maternity Clothes? None yet, however my skinny jeans are starting to feel snug. My sister swears when I wear flowy shirts and leggings she can see a tiny bump peeking through. I mostly feel incredibly bloated, and as if I look like I've eaten way too many glazed donuts.

Sleep? Since about 8 weeks I've been waking up 2-3 times a night to pee, which has been a little hard as I'm so exhausted during my stumbles to the bathroom that my eyes roll in the back of my head and I continuously stub my toe on the door frame. I have found it hard to sleep in on the weekends. I am, however, loving napping when I get home from work in the afternoon. Oh, and last Wednesday I went to bed at 8:50 and didn't wake up until 6:15 the next morning. It was glorious.

Movement? None yet, but I'm counting down the days to when we can feel poppy seed wiggle.

Symptoms? Since about 7 weeks I've had morning all-day sickness and nausea 24/7. By now I've trained myself to eat little snacks throughout the day, as I feel like death the minute my belly is empty.  The smell of cigarette smoke instantly makes me feel ill; to the point where I can't drive behind someone on the road who is smoking in front of me. Aside from that I've been loving knowing our little one is growing big and strong inside me. It's the best feeling in the whole wide world.

Best Pregnancy Brain Moment? Oh Lord, there are too many to count. Let's see...putting the milk in the cupboard and my crunchy nut cornflakes in the fridge. Asking my Mom why she never cut up her penguin for her 4th of July BBQ (and by penguin I totally meant watermellon). And last but certainly not least, standing in the hallway using my fingers to count down the months to January, forgetting October every time while my Mother laughed and said "...try again. You're forgetting that month with all the pumpkins!"

Mood Swings? Oh God yes. I'm laughing hysterically one minute, bawling hearing Chris Brown's song Forever the next.

Cravings? French onion soup with no cheese, just croutons. Also really loving fruit and kale smoothies in the morning and BACON.

Food Aversions? Tuna fish. I can't even be in the same room when others are eating it. Good God it's vile! A lot of meat doesn't sound or look appealing. Oh, and the thought of risotto makes me gag, which is so weird as I typically adore it.

Labor Signs? Still a long way out. Phew.

Best Moment This Week?  4th of July festivities with the family. Being home to enjoy these good ol' American holidays that I remember and cherished so much as a child is amazing. All day yesterday while we were at the parade my family and I kept saying "this time next year the baby will be here and full of chucky little baby rolls!"  I cannot wait to become a family - FINALLY - and share with my baby all of the amazing experiences I had as a child.

What I Miss? Being able to eat hot dogs at family BBQ's or drink a nice cold bottle of Woodchuck hard cider.

Looking Forward To? Our 12 week appointment next Friday evening, and then joining my family for my 26th birthday meal immediately after at a restaurant with Hibachi tables (I've alwaaaays wanted to go).

  1. You can still eat hotdogs or deli meats as long as you cook them till steaming.
