"You can do it!" hugs, smiles and chocolate bars

The last couple days have been stressful. Really stressful. I'm currently smack dab in the middle of finishing up my PGCE. Now while that sounds very exciting, like birds and fluttering butterflies, I can assure you it's not. I'm slaving over a MAHOOSIVE 10,000 word Masters level reflective essay (which is actually 3 essays in one) and a pain in the ass QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) online portfolio (where I need to upload 'evidence' aka 79 billion lesson plans, lesson evaluations, lesson observations and craploads of other boring stuff - in order to demonstrate I've achieved the 33 standards you must meet in order to become a qualified teacher).

I've cried. Crumpled papers. Ripped papers. Thrown papers...then spent 10 minutes searching for them again. Kicked my printer. Swore at my scanner. Run out of printer ink. Exploded a pen. Lost vital pieces of evidence. Remained in the same pair of pyjamas for 3 days and even developed dread locks...okay, so the dreadlock thing is a lie, but I have seriously wondered what mental state I was in when I decided a PGCE was for me. There are no words to sufficiently describe the overwhelming amount of stress and frustration. But they say pictures are worth a thousand words, so, please see Exhibit A: My living room.
As you can imagine, I'm close to the end of my rope. Over the past 72 hours I've been completely consumed by University work, grubby and in desperate need of a shower, lacking chocolate and husband-less. It hasn't been pretty. But my Mama-in-law (the best mama-in-law in the whole world) did one of the most adorable things for me today. She surprised me by hopping on a train and travelling a whole 30 minutes just to knock on my front door give me a big huge hug and present me with a bouquet of beautiful flowers, bag of chocolate chip shortbread and chocolate bars.
Seriously, how sweet?! It was one of the most adorable things ever, and really made me smile. AND on top off those lovely gestures, something very special arrived in the mail today from the gold ol' U S of A. My Momma sent me the SWEETEST card wishing me lots of good luck and positive vibes for my Math exam next week (yes, this is the same dreaded Math exam I discussed in this post). It touched my heart and I feel truly blessed to have such lovely family :)
In addition to getting spoiled rotten by lovely cards, flowers and yum-yums; my English best bud, Toni has come to keep me company and spend the night at our house. We're slumber partying and I don't mean to brag (well, actually I do because you all NEED to make these for yourselves!) but the sweet sweet smell of Blackberry Pie Bars is currently wafting out of the oven...
and boy does it smell TASTY!
And now finally, we come to the most exciting news of the night...drum roll please (because you all know my infatuation with drum rolls) budda budda budda budda budda BUM!
TOMORROW IS MY BELOVED COLDPLAY GIG!!!  YAY!!! This is my graduation gift from 2011 (read this post and this post to understand the whole story. It involves Adele and throat surgery and tears and disappointment soon followed my glorious joy...it's very complicated. Ha!) I have seriously been counting down the days for months and months! Toni and I are BEYOND excited to sing our hearts out to every single song tomorrow and just typing about it makes me contemplate crying happy tears/doing a happy dance. I. can't. wait.

So for now, I'm off to indulge in a bit of Blackberry Pie Bars, paint my nails purple and snuggle into bed. I've got a busy day of FUN tomorrow and I bloody well deserve it! :)

Thanks for reading, guys!
Lots of love, love, love,

  1. Blackberry pie bars!! I have eaten sooo many since placement. SO GOOD. And in terms of the work just remember we are all in the same boat. And we WILL get it done because after so much practice at doing things last minute, the less time we have the better work we will produce ;) xxx
