Show Us Your Life: Master Bedrooms

Happy Friday, Everyone! Aaaaaaaaahhhh, you can all breathe a big sigh of relief. The weekend is nearly here! (is it weird that I still find that exciting even though I've got essays to write?!)

Well ladies and gentlemen, I am excited that on this rainy English Friday I am embarking on my second Show Us Your Life adventure with Kelly! Only this time, we're admiring Master Bedrooms (if you missed my Kitchen's post you can click here to see that). I had so much fun last week looking at everyone else's beautiful kitchens, and it was so lovely to get such sweet comments about my little English abode. I just had to join in the fun again this week.

So, once more I welcome you into mine and Carl's little English apartment, our humble abode for the past 2 years, which we'll be packing up and leaving in only a couple of weeks. It's making me sad to know that we're leaving our first proper 'home' together, but I'm excited for what the future holds. And, I'm probably biased, but I think we've done a pretty good job of making our apartment as 'Amanda & Carl-ized' as possible... although, judging by the candles, abundance of necklaces and sparkly pillows it's probably more Amanda-ized than anything. But that's true of most homes, right ladies? If we left it up to the men we'd live in empty rooms with nothing more than a 590 million inch flat screen, comfy couch and refrigerator full of chicken wings and beer. And that would be craptastic. So, my hubby is happy to let me get away with sparkly pillows if it means he can watch English football while I froof and perfectly align them. And that works for me!

A couple things I want to point out before you're bombarded with pictures. 1) I HATE plain white walls. I find them to be cold, lacking in personality and depressing (that's just my opinion, if you have white walls I'm not at all insulting your home, I just know that in my house I like to be surrounded by colors...they make me feel cosy!) so if our landlord had permitted, I would have painted/wallpapered like it was nobody's business. But paintbrushes and wallpaper glue were no-no's, so I've had to spruce up our bedroom as best I could using bed linen, curtains, pictures and pillows; all of which you'll notice relate to black or purple in some way, shape or form. That's because those are mine and Carl's favorite colors. (AHA! Ya see! I did take into consideration his interests! Haha!)  2) I have to admit that for the purpose of these pictures I have removed Carl's massive pain in the ass stash of electric guitars/keyboards that was by our wardrobe. Only because had I not, you would have confused our bedroom with his bloody rehearsal room...*baby, this IS a hint* 3) There are probably dust bunnies on some of the picture frames, or on top of the tv, or having a disco on the lamp shades. Trust me when I say that I know they're there, I just don't have the time to run around corralling the little buggers like cattle. So, if you love me you'll turn a blind eye :)

Now that I've got all that mumbo-jumbo out of the way, I welcome you to poke around mine and Carl's bedroom :) Enjoy!

Our bedroom!
This is the view from the hallway.
And as you walk through the door (notice ANOTHER one of the hubby's guitars - although, I'll let him off because that's a mini one made out an old cigar box. Which is pretty cool.)
I warned you about my pillow infatuation.
Now you can all say you've seen Liverpool! Ha! This is the view from our window as you lay in bed.
My bedside cabinet.
The most recent (nearly 3 years old) family photo. I miss my family  something awful and waking up to this photo every day makes me smile :)
My adopted Godmother, Annie, made this lamp for me! It sits on Carl's bedside cabinet and I LOVE it! It's a glass cube filled with white twinkle lights and wrapped in black lace to look like a present. She's even put purple polka dot ribbons around it (purple and polka dots? She clearly knows me well! haha) If you're interested in knowing how Annie made this light, let me know! I can get in touch and I'm sure she'd be more than happy to share. I wouldn't mind doing a tutorial blog post :)
Again, looking from the hallway. This is the other side of our bedroom.
Our mini TV, which we watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S on every night before bed. And yes, I left my STASH of teaching resources/forms/lesson observations underneath. I've kept it real. Untidy mountain of folders and all.
P.S. Jen and Audj, I've kept your picture frames with me the entire time I've been in England. They'll follow me right back to Vermont too. Love you girls.
The top of my dresser - aka the beautifying/primping station.
My make-up bag, face creams/body lotions, fancy acrylic jewelry box and of course, my 80 billion necklaces and bracelets. Ha!
I seriously ADORE this jewelry box. It was a gift from the hubby for getting accepted onto my PGCE course last year. Carl also got me the Very Hungry Caterpillar box (if you know me, you know my obsession with this book) as a Christmas gift - it's actually a 'first tooth' box for when we have a baby someday, but I'm using it to house my extra Pandora beads and rings in the meantime. The picture on the top is of Carl at his big Get Loaded in the Park concert in London a couple of summers ago.  I heart my handsome guitarist.
A close up of my jewelry obsession.
This photo frame hangs above the dresser. The top picture is of my Grandma and I at one of my  Culinary awards ceremonys. The middle is of my Momma and Daddy-o around their 25th wedding anniversary. And the bottom one is the day after Carl and I got engaged. Our friends had thrown a little surprise engagement party, and this is a picture of us with our fancy sparkler cake. I love it because Carl's face is so precious. He looks so happy.
One of my book shelves.
Bottom shelf. Some of my children's books (take note there are two different versions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar here. Ha!)
Middle shelf. Books I used during my Undergraduate degree,  a few of Carl's books, and some more children's books (I LOVE Roald Dahl in case you couldn't tell).
Top shelf. More books I used during University, and a couple others I've collected along the way. A lot of books have already been sent back across the pond. Including my Twilight series. I miss it.
The top of our bookshelf. A picture with my Daddy-o and my baby Sheester. Again, 3 years old but I love it. One of my fav candle holders. And of course, my Yankee Candle Reed Diffuser (if you ever invest in one of these, make sure you buy the Black Cherry one! It's the best smell EVER!)
And this last picture is something that is normally crammed on the middle shelf of our book shelf but I took it off to better show you. This is a massive folder stuffed FULL of letters/pictures that Carl and I sent back and forth to each other for the 6 years we were long distance. It's so special to me and I love that we've kept them all. I look through them every now and then. Oh, and in case you're wondering what the hell that big Britney magazine is...it's just what it looks like. A big Britney Spears magazine. I sent to Carl as a joke because he used to fib and try to pretend he didn't have some sort of a fascination with her.  He totally did. And probably still does. Haha!
So there you have it, folks! Mine and Carl's master bedroom. I hope you've all enjoyed your little tour, you're welcome back any time! Oh, and if you're interested in seeing other people's master bedrooms make sure you pop onto Kelly's blog and take a look! I fully intend to procrastinate (some more) by scrolling through everyone else's pictures. Haha!

Enjoy the rest of your Friday and have a happy weekend, lovelies!
Lots of love, love, love,

  2. Hey Amanda! Thanks for dropping by my blog! (And for the google+ shoutout!)

It's so hard when you can't paint, etc. to put your own mark on a room, but you've done so great at incorporating color and flair! I so wish I was a bit more brave about embracing bright color. And I absolutely LOVE those black lamps on your bedside tables...

(My husband and I L-O-V-E Friends, too. I feel certain there will never be a better show on tv - EVER! :))

    1. Hey Ryan! No problems, hun. I love your style, I had to share it! :)

Thanks for such sweet comments. It really irritated me not being able to put my 'stamp' on our apartment the way I would have liked, but I think it represented us as best it could :)

I hear ya, F.R.I.E.N.D.S is the BEST TV show ever invented. The only other show I enjoy half as much is Sex And The City...but the hubs says it's crap! Ha!

Thanks for stopping by, petal! :)

  8. I'm with you on not liking white. In fact I mentioned it when I showed off my bedroom too! We're also renting and can't paint. And I love your jewelry box. It's so pretty! And F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is the best ever. I own all ten seasons and my husband and I watch them for downtime. We are now going through the entire series for the third time! LOVE!
