My date with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha

“And there, in the same city where they met as girls, four New York women entered the next phase of their lives dressed head to toe in love. And that’s the one label that never goes out of style.” ~ Carrie Bradshaw

I know there are a lot of you who find Sex And The City to be vulgar, immensely inappropriate and - dare I say it - garish. The truth of it is that, well... it is. It's certainly not a show I would ever let my children watch, or recommend to any young and impressionable teenage girls - but it is, however, hilarious, entertaining and unbelievably addicting. Call me tacky, I really don't mind - I love it. Charlotte, Samantha, Carrie and Miranda are my girlfriends...well in my own little world they are. And aside from F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Sex and the City is my all time favorite TV series. I  find it hysterical - mostly because of some of the downright obscene things Samantha comes out with and I'm not lying when I say she's made me blush a time or 90. But whether you want to admit it or not, the fact of the matter is that those 4 ladies speak a lot of truth. Through their different personalities and experiences, they touch on a wide variety of personal, social and political issues women face on a daily basis out in the big scary world. Over the 6 seasons a wide variety of topics take center stage. From the obsession some women feel to have a date/boyfriend/husband, to the desire to make money and have that dream career. The value of and ability to stand by our independence, some women's need for stability, desire to get married and find that dream house, to have lasting friendships, faithful relationships, babies and even what it's like to suffer with cancer.  Rude jokes and snide sexual comments aside - it's really a very clever show which in some way, shape or form can relate to everyone. That's what I love.
It's brilliant and I enjoy this show so much so that it's frightening and maybe a little pathetic. There. I said it. I'm lame. So lame that I've even fantasized about how much fun it would be if these 4 women really existed, out there in big NYC, and how awesome it would be to somehow slot into their little gang for a day (minus the cigarettes and loser men). Obviously I'd miss my loving husband, but on those days where he leaves his wet towels on the bed, uses the last of the toilet paper without replacing it and throws his dirty socks in the washing machine all balled up - I wouldn't mind being one of the SATC girls for a few hours. I mean come on. Would you pass up the glamorous opportunity to stroll around the Big Apple (my fav place in the whole world) with your girlfriends eating at VIP restaurants, wearing Christian Dior and a killer pair of Manolo Blahnik's? Pfffft! I wouldn't. Oh, and with all of this PGCE work slogging me down, I also wouldn't pass up a cosmopolitan right about now either...Ha!
Last night, I sat lonely and husband-less (for the next 5 days Carl's is with his best buds at a music festival enjoying the musical talents of Black Sabbath...snore...) in our empty apartment hugging my teddy bear and eating my 10 billionth Strawberry Lemonade Bar (seriously a-ma-zing! You must make them!). I attempted to divert my stressful essay writing momentarily and scrolled through our gazzilion TV channels frustratingly wondering how out of all those channels NOTHING could be on. It was totally accidental that I happened to stumbled upon the the Series 3 episode "Cock-a-Doodle-Do." But as I sat there laughing hysterically at Samantha lobbing eggs at drag queens and Miranda's paranoia about the Chinese take-out girl, I started to feel better. On several occasions I laughed out loud, craved Chinese food, and contemplated mine and Carl's love of NYC and plan to move to Southern CT just to be close to it. In some stupid way that one episode made me feel closer to my home.  I felt content, less lonely, less husband-less and home-sick. I was less stressed and more at ease with my life - I mean surely writing massive essays and scanning lesson plans is far more enjoyable than having egg fights with drag queens at 2 in the morning, right? What's more, Miranda's paranoia and loyalty to one Chinese restaurant made me feel better about how in the Pancake Shop they know my order by heart too. And more importantly, listening to Carrie write/read her newspaper article reminded me how much I love to write too. The fact of the matter is that after my date with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha I felt happy and went to bed with a smile on my face.

Not many TV series I know can do that.

Thanks for reading, guys!
Lots of love, love, love,

  1. I'm sure this won't come as any sort of a shock, but this is also one of my FAVORITE TV SERIES EVER!!!! I can pretty much recite every line to every episode. I thought the movies were good...but not NEAR as good as the show.

When we meet up, lets make it a Harry Potter & Sex and the City marathon. Deal? And we can way strawberry lemonade bars :-)

    1. Hahaha I've seriously laughed out loud. We really should have come from the same womb. No joke. Is there anything we DON'T have in common? (aside from I only like coffee in the form of a double shot vanilla latte and you drink mugs of the stuff by itself every day?)

It's a deal. Harry Potter, Twilight, Sex and the City marathon with wine and strawberry lemonade bars :) xoxo

  2. I loved this series... I'm not sure there are many women who didn't. And I think we can relate because the issues they dealt with were real and relatable. I just wish I had their wardrobe!

    1. I agree! I haven't spoken to anyone who didn't like it, yet! It really is relatable to so many people. And trust my girlfriend, I wish I had their wardrobe too. I'd be living in a cardboard box if I attempted it though. Ha!

Thanks for stopping by! :) xoxo
